Raumpatrouille Orion - Music from the original tv-series (revised)
The seventh release in our Peter Thomas series is dedicated to the film music for the first and most famous German science fiction television series RAUMPATROUILLE (colloquially aka RAUMPATROUILLE ORION). Just in time for the 60th anniversary of the seven-part blockbuster (first broadcast: September 17, 1966), this legendary highlight from Peter Thomas' oeuvre, expanded to include previously unreleased tracks, is being reissued on CD and LP.
Rarely has the music for a television series developed such charisma beyond the images as this soundtrack. The theme music can now be described as iconic without hesitation. The vocoder countdown at the beginning alone has been used countless times. From Pulp to Pizzicato Five and Combustible Edison to Die Fantastischen Vier and DJ Spinna, the RAUMPATROUILLE music has been covered, sampled, and remixed.
Since 1966, there have been numerous recordings released in various editions, but in collaboration with Peter Thomas' son Philip, we have managed to add four previously unreleased tracks to the soundtrack, found in the composer's estate. This LP release is based on the original Philips LP from 1966, supplemented by the four new tracks. To make room for them, three tracks had to be removed, but these were never used in the series.
This LP therefore contains only original music from the series, with the exception of one track which, although not included in the series, we didn't dare leave out: "Bolero on the Moon Rocks," on which the Pulp hit "This is Hardcore" (1998) is based, and which achieved fame in its own right.
In addition to the (almost) purist original music on the LP, the CD, with a running time of over 60 minutes, contains all other original tracks and outtakes that have been added to the soundtrack over the years. Later filler material was omitted for reasons of space or lack of relevance.

Gatefold cover
The illustrations on the elaborately designed gatefold cover of the LP and the digipack of the CD are by Adrian Keindorf. The LP is available on black 180g vinyl as well as in a limited edition of three hundred LPs on sparkle/starlight vinyl, each in a lined inner sleeve and gatefold cover.
